Business Management

As well as providing the knowledge base from which to build, the Business Studies ethos is one that stimulates pupils. To this end, every opportunity is taken to build skills for learning – skills such as self-directed learning, teamwork, presentation, research and enquiry, self-evaluation and reflection.

Currently, we offer Business Management at the following levels:

  • National 4
  • National 5
  • Higher

Business and enterprise are at the heart of national growth and development. This is reflected in the importance of business education in schools today.

Our National Qualifications in Business Management develop learners’ enterprise skills and attributes by providing them with opportunities to study a range of business and organisational contexts.

Learners develop an awareness of the ways in which society relies on businesses and other organisations to satisfy its needs, and an understanding of how to use business information to interpret and report on overall business performance – in a range of contexts. Learners also gain knowledge and understanding of the impact that external influences have on organisations, such as economic impact and sustainability. The Course explores the important impact businesses have on everyday life, and therefore gives learners experiences which are topical. It develops skills for learning, life and work that will be of instant use in the workplace. It supports personal financial awareness through improving learners’ knowledge of financial management in a business context. A whole range of teaching methodologies is employed to motivate and engage the pupils. These include the use of video, core notes, books, games, quizzes, software packages and discussions. The pupils will have many opportunities to be creative and will often design/develop new products incorporating the concepts they have learned. Learners will be given the opportunity to be involved in activities such as Young Enterprise, Social Enterprise and Dragon Dens which are challenging, motivating and inspiring.
